Reflections
My work
Original Photographs
With my original picture they a just a stepping stone for my edited photos, the original pictures are the base in which I will work off of. My original photos are heavily inspired off of my research, you could make some comparisons but the difference between them is that my pictures are in my own style. Each photographer has a certain way in which they take their photos, This makes every photo taken unique to the individual because of their technique to take the picture.
A lot of my work on reflections includes reflection of lights in the reflective floor, I did this by waiting until it had rained and when to a place were there would be a lot of lighting. At the time of the pictures I took it was night time, this made it difficult to take pictures so I had to use a tripod and long exposure to capture the darkness of the sky as well as the colours and brightness of the lights reflections. Another way in which I tried to interpret reflective photography was by using reflective objects such as mirrors and a reflective sphere. These objects are extremely helpful in situation were there are no natural reflections, such as the water in rivers and puddles, so you can make your own with the objects.

The two pictures above are of the same place but are in different styles, note that both photos are original photographs they have not been edited in Photoshop. The technique I used in the photo on the left is a fast shutter speed, it has made the sky have more of a grained texture and the dark points in the picture to have the same effect. The water was also captured at a point where you can see the ripples within the water, and in my opinion is not a shape quality picture when compared to the picture next to it on the right. The technique that I used in the picture on the right was a long shutter speed on my camera, this is so my camera's sensor is exposed to more light giving the movement in the water to look smooth. It also reveals better reflections as you can see in the picture on the right when compared to the picture on the left, and the light on the right picture have a star effect which better shows the light reflecting in the water.
Research of other photographer's work
There are many great photographers out there taking amazing reflections picture here are just some of the brilliant work of other photographers that i have found on the internet.
Reflective Photography is a technique of using reflective surfaces, for example, water, windows and mirrors to show different dimensions of scenery, especially within pictures. It can be hard to take reflective pictures, for example, mirrors have to be clean and surrounded be something interesting or you can put something in the line of reflections to make the reflection look interesting. Water can be difficult to take photographs of because the smallest movement in the water could disrupt the stillness of the water causing it to ripple and the reflection in the water to become vivid and not visible. To get the best results when taking pictures of the water you should have your back facing towards the sun so that the images is not washed out, this technique also applies to many other styles of photographs. With windows, you need some source of light to take a picture, but you must make sure that the reflected object being photographed is lighter that the light that is on the other side of the window.
When researching any pictures it is best to get many of them to expand the number of ideas that can branch off of them. It will give you a better sense of the type of photos that you will be taking. Research can offer many different points of view on a certain object or place, it can show you the things that you may have missed out on when taking photos. The places, colors, and objects used in other peoples work can help people all around the world, this is because in each picture there is a good idea that can inspire other people to take a similar picture, but in the style of the photographer taking the photo.

My work
photoshopped photographs
I personally enjoy using Photoshop to edit and manipulate my photos. Using black and white is a simple but effective way to make the photographs look more dramatic, but it can also give the feeling of age and give a more gloomy atmosphere in some situations. You can also change these more gloomy black and white pictures into vibrant lively photos, by using colour. Brightening or darkening pictures change the mood dramatically also. The introduction of colour in only certain parts of a picture will draw a persons eyes directly where you want them to look. I have tried to use all of these ideas in my Photoshopped pictures.
Final Exam timed work
|
These four photos show the progress of photoshopping a picture to transition it into a final piece of work. This particular picture took a good amount of time to complete because of the technique I used, (spot colour). |
On each and every photoshopped picture in this project I have changed the contrast, it is a good way to put some depth within a picture and bring out the grittiness of it. I have also use black and white on some of the pictures which is simple but effective, it has got to be one of the most common style of photo but it works and looks good so I decided to use it in my photoshopped work.
